The peanuts make a break for it

Out by City College it's always blustery. Standing and waiting for the #29 bus, and suddenly the street comes alive with little white critters bouncing towards us.

Thousands of styrofoam peanuts, buoyed by the wind, do not fly but bounce. In unison, making a noise that drowns out even the passing traffic. Blik blik blik, go the peanuts. I stand there watching as the peanuts rush past me, and after a few minutes the bulk of them have gone, with a few lone peanuts hurrying after the rest.

I don't think anyone else at the bus stop understood what I was smiling at.
